What is Islam
Islam is defined in the Hadith of Jibril.
And what is the Hadith of Jibril?
“Islam is to testify that there is no God except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to pay Zakat, to Fast in Ramadan, and to make the Pilgrimage to the House (i.e. the Ka’bah) if one is able to.” He asked: “And what is iman (Faith)?” He said: “To believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, and resurrection after death; to believe in divine preordination, both good and bad.” He asked: “And what is ihsan?”
He said: “It is to worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, and although you do not see Him. He sees you.” At the end of the hadith, the Prophet told his Companions: “That was jibril, who came to teach you your religion.” (Muslim)
