This is election year and it is even closer than it was....Come February or March we will as a nation elect a new president after 8 years of the Muhammadu Buhari Led regime,it was a long time coming and the elections should be a relieve or rather a fresh possibility to a better Nigeria.
But,it is not like other elections, this election is a WAZOBIA one, where the 3 largest ethnic group are heavily represented and everyone is confident in delivering the ballot and sit at the highest level of government.
Well this is where the problem is, previously we always had a sense of who was going to win or even who will be better at doing the job,and opposition struggle but don't make it execpt in 2015 where PDP was removed, and that was a "unanimous " vote by Nigerians.
This time I don't know whether to call it delusion or confident but major political parties fanbase are so confident they will win, this is a good thing but very bad and infact dangerous.
One person is going to emerge winner come February, but Nigerians will not be happy regardless. We look forward to a change of government, but I get sad at the sight of election results announcement.
What has always kept Nigerians going in tough times is their happiness and sense of humour glazed with that unwavering perseverance and for most of the elections we did,the person emerges by majority of votes, meaning a higher/good percentage of Nigerians voted,we just get disappointed at the end because of poor outcome, but atleast we did vote that person in by large.
This time no matter who the victor is,the votes wouldn't be by majority of Nigerians vote, it will be a winning number, but not a landslide or anything close. The implication of getting into office this way is that, people lose hope the very first day you emerge as winner, then imagine 4 years with looming hope and shaking support from Nigerians.
I dread thinking about the forthcoming elections so much, that personally I have detached myself from it, one can't even find a suitable candidate among the front runners, everywhere is just chaotic and its the same people for God's sake. same people from APC and PDP. What makes it more sad is the fact that youth are, for also the very first time invested in this election, trying to show their voice and choice. Quite sadly, they too have fallen to the tricks of Nigerian politicians.
Though lots of Nigerians and the youth are very optimistic based on their choice, there isn't much difference between these candidates and the former, same people same party, this time just different parties.
Nigerians will be gutted by elections results,we might have to leave with another years of the ruling party,or the serial contestant with labels or another who moved parties and the "new hope" for some people.
Three major candidates, three major ethnic group, three major regions, all pulling crowds of their own, anyway it goes, one party will blame the other and it will come down to ethnicity again,we are more divided than before and this elections is driving us to more division.
The effect will be massive as more with young people moving out of the country everyday in search of better life. The masses are always at the recieving end,and will always be.
Let's take a break from so much pessimistic sounded writing...We should just be realistic and that's is our reality.
Regardless,we fall to our knees as always, seeking God's guidance in our affairs,we do hope that whoever emerges,we wouldn't have it bad, that we regain peace, prosper and develop.
Long live the federal republic of Nigeria.
We will live to see better days.
